This GPS & Location Policy explains how KiwiMileage uses location services. It forms part of our Privacy Policy. You must give consent before location tracking is enabled.
KiwiMileage uses location services to detect trips and calculate mileage. Location information is used only for trip tracking and reporting purposes.
Detecting when a journey starts and ends (Smart Trip Detection).
Calculating the distance and duration of each trip.
Associating a trip with the correct vehicle and odometer reading.
Location is collected only while Smart Trip Detection is enabled and the app is in use or running in the background for trip detection. We do not continuously track your location when Smart Trip Detection is turned off.
Trip start and end times, distance, and duration.
The purpose and category you assign to each trip.
We do not store a continuous map of your route by default. Only the summary data needed for mileage and reporting is retained, unless you choose to record additional detail.
The first time you enable Smart Trip Detection, you will see a consent prompt. You must tap Accept before GPS tracking is enabled. You can withdraw consent at any time by turning Smart Trip Detection off in Settings.
To detect trips while you drive, KiwiMileage may use location in the background. Your device will ask for permission to use location "Always" or "While Using the App". Background location is used only for trip detection and is not shared for advertising.
We optimise location use to reduce battery and mobile data impact. You can pause detection at any time.
